Most people are under the misconception that only burglars use lock picking tools. This simply isn't true. The vast majority of our buyers are landlords. We sell to landlords who just have a couple of properties right up to several hundred. For burglars in the time it would take to try one lock they could have entered a dozen buildings their usual way. Lock picking is a much slower and time consuming way of trying to enter a building and for the largest part it certainly isn't like you see at the movies.
Why sell them?
Firstly because so many people and businesses have genuine needs for them. Secondly I can walk out of any DIY or Bike store today with tools to take off pretty much every wheel from every car in the UK or tools like monkey wrenches to open pretty much any door in the UK and I wouldn't need practice to do it.
On a large number of call outs locksmiths resort to the same tactics as burglars and use force to gain entry. Locksmiths use drills whereas burglars will use whatever is at hand to force a door open.
Lock picking tools have been available to buy for years but their use in crime is still unheard of because why spend up to 45 minutes or more trying to pick a lock when in most cases breaking a window or door will gain you entry in seconds.
We sell lock pick sets to mainly landlords and locksmiths but we also supply to a number of Doctors, Social Workers and builders but also to an increasing number of hobbyists who make up the largest part of our sales. Lock picking is the ultimate jump from jigsaw puzzles and crosswords and it is also a great way of building up dexterity and sensitivity in your hands.
The Law
It is up to you to check what your local laws say about lock picking sets. You will almost certainly get into trouble if you are found carrying lock picks while out and about unless you have a very good reason for carrying them. In the case of lock picking tools you are guilty until proved innocent if found in possession of them on the streets.
Age Restrictions
As far as we are aware there are no age restrictions for buying these tools but again, you will need to check your local laws.
